CROOKED DISCO w/ Alexander technique, Claire Huxtable and Old Money + Open Bar!
Crooked Disco is back again this month with a full roster of blazin' talent, free booze, and clothing giveaways. Tonights I am crazy excited to bring Alexander Technique to the decks. Founding member of DJs Are Not Rockstars, along with Princess Superstar, Alexander has helped define NYC Electro. Alexander's unique sound combines the pulsating bass and distorted sound of electro with tribal, pounding rhythms of classic New York House and Booty influences from Chicago. The energy that comes out is wild, and not to be missed.
Next up we've got DLake and Symbol are Claire Huxtable bringing that new club sh!t direct from Baltimore. One part MC and one part DJ, Claire Huxtable are a non-stop tornado of club bangers. Classic house, electro, baltimore, booty... if it gets you movin' then their on it. Expect big things from these two in 2008.
And taking on live duties are Attorney St's own Old Money, the MC duo that's been burnin' up the blogosphere as of late. No standard issue hip hop here, as Cambridge and Scheme drop some next level rhythms over funked up electro beats. Check out their recent love over at Discobelle for more gritty details and an exclusive remix from Crooked Disco's own DJ Morsy.
Residents DJ Morsy and DJ Kester hold down the bookends of the night with classic house, new disco and who knows what early and some dirty dancefloor anthems (imma try and drop some new baseline jammers and old school acid breaks if people don't freak out... Morsy'll probably save my a$$ with rock tinged electro and wobbly, dubsided daggers) until they turn on the house lights.
And don't forget, we're giving out fresh threads all night from our good friends Yuhzimi over in Switzerland, and we've got free vodka from 10-11 to get your party started right! $5 on the RSVP list and more at the door, so make sure you RSVP now! Read More...

Composers OutFront! with Ned McGowan
"Whether you think it’s inspired or just plain nuts that contrabass flutist/composer Ned McGowan wrote a piece made almost entirely from construction site noises, one thing is certain: it works—and works brilliantly. So do his other furiously fun and eclectic deconstructions of musical categories—coming to BAM as part of the American Composers Orchestra’s OutFront! series." Full details here.

Neptunes Power Hour
I am so happy someone finally got around to doing this. We've been approaching bars for a while about power hour but no takes. I mean, beer pong is running rampant in the city but there is nothing better then downing a 6-pack of beer in an hour (I think its actually 7.5 cans if your counting) with your friends. Tonight's pre-gamathon features a romp through 60 Neptunes produced tracks thanks to the good folks at TheseArePowerfulHours.com and - while the beer is not free - you can get in the game for $15 for a six pack and shot of whisky to kick it off. Or you can play at home and download the mixtape here. Track list below (really? they did Rump Shaker.. I love that song). 21+ Read More...

Whitney Live: So Percussion and Kneebody
"Fun, bold and unpredictable, Whitney Live showcases an eclectic variety of cutting-edge performers." Tonight features a collaboration between the genre-bending ensembles So Percussion and Kneebody. "ffortlessly blending the improvisational skill of jazz with the swagger of hip hop and the conviction of rock, Kneebody has created a cohesive voice that is at once singular and familiar. Their organic, postmodern instrumental music imparts "an epic, trans-generational gravity." So Percussion creates new visual and aural experiences by pulling percussion instruments out of their usual contexts. The group’s educational initiatives have resulted in residencies with composition departments at Princeton, Harvard, and Columbia University, and their collaborations include a project with the electronica duo Matmos." Apollo Heights at Rock and a Hard Place
Somewhere between funk, soul, afro punk, and shoegaze lie Brooklyn up-and-comers Apollo Heights. Maybe it's afro-gaze, maybe neo-soul but with influences as far and wide as Cutris Mayfield and The Jesus and Mary Chain you would expect suspect something sporadic but the result is a succinct, soulful wall of noise. Tonight they take the early slot at the weekly Rock and a Hard Place party along with 4 other bands (below). 21+ Read More...
